Mask Goodness – WEI Golden Root Purifying Mud Mask

P1000684I lurveeee face masks, the whole routine is my way to escape from daily mundane tasks. Basically little me-time. So today I will talk about Wei Golden Root Purifying Mud Mask. I first heard about this mask on A Model Recommends and ever since I was so curious to try it, not for its ancient Chinese theory claims but simply for its packaging (extremely shallow move….I know!).

Lets dive straight in, it comes in 8 little tubs of goodness arranged like beautiful chocolate box! Now they make look little but each pot lasts me at least 3 uses  (tight cling film the leftover). The content of the pot is rich brown mud mask (seriously looks like chocolate). Definitely not your standard mud mask, its much easier to work with. Plus it comes with a brush for applying the mask, and this is a fabulous touch. I have used this brush for applying many other masks (such as Glamglow, D-tox Purifying Mask, etc). Feels so strangely relaxing to apply with brush…like in a day spa.

P1000686On application its slight tingly however in no way its uncomfortable plus doesn’t last long. I leave it on for half an hour, complete laundry or do my nails or unload dishwasher. Weirdly all of above activities are therapeutic (yes I’m weirdo, I get it). Then I warm wash cloth, lightly steam my face and wipe mask off my face. Skin glows! Yes skin glows, it also looks tighter and brighter. Its perfect for that time of month when skin isn’t at its best.

The mask certainly doesn’t come cheap however over period of time I can justify it. The Accountant/Auditor in me did simple math, here we go: 8 pots * 3 uses per pot = 24 uses. Therefore, $1.75 per use, and a brush that can last for many many other mask application! Steallllll and definite repurchase.

WEI Golden Root Purifying Mud Mask – $42

My Thoughts: Vasanti Brighten Up! Enzymatic Face Rejuvenator

I received a deluxe sample size from my monthly Birchbox subscription. I love some enzyme action on my skin (Read More Here) and therefore this product got me all excited.

P1000643

The product is white thick paste with super micro exfoliating granules (almost feels like sand). Vasanti claims it provides similar effect of microdermabrasion therefore aluminum oxide crystals listed as second ingredient. After massaging on skin for couple of minutes, you can really feel the gentle grittiness. Then emulsify with water and you have some form of lathering action. Loved the whole process however it left my skin feeling tight, dry, stripped of natural oils and worst of all consistent use over 2 weeks broke me out.

So I investigated further into the ingredients and below is breakdown of what each ingredient does:

Please note: I’m not a chemist, this is plain internet research to conclude why my skin reacted.

Aqua (Water), Aluminum Oxide (used for Microderm procedure), Cetyl Alcohol (organic alcohol), Decyl Glucoside (foaming agent for sensitive skins), Cocamidopropyl Betaine (lathering agent- can cause irritation), Glycerin, Propanediol (viscosity controlling agent that can cause irritation), Panthenol (skin conditioner-form of B5), Emulsifying Wax NF(derived from plant- or petroleum-based wax converted into an emulsion with the aid of added detergents.), Glyceryl Stearate (lubricant and slows loss of water from skin), Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride (essential fatty acids for skin), Ricinus Communis (Castor) Seed Oil (not good for acne prone skin), Aloe Barbadensis (Aloe) Leaf Juice, Tocopheryl Acetate (form of vitamin e made with natural vitamin e and add acid), Papain (papaya enzyme), Parfum, Phenoxyethanol (preservative-not irritating), Caprylyl Glycol (conditioner and moisturizer that helps increase the shelf life of a product).

After analyzing this in detail, I realized it has some irritating ingredients. In addition, papaya enzymes is listed as 4th last ingredient which really disappointed me. Considering name of product I expected papain to be 2nd or 3rd ingredient. It’s a shame because I really enjoyed using the product.

Birchbox – august 2014

I received my August Birchbox this week and I’m pretty excited to try these products.

P1000791 P1000792

Initial Thoughts:

Caitlyn Cosmetics Cleasing Balm – its heavily fragranced but it sure is pleasant fragrance!

Juliette has a gun – quite an interesting name, however fragrance is pleasant. yet to test its lasting power which could be deal maker or breaker for me.

Marcelle BB Cream Golden Glow – Its great as base to my Rodial BB Skin Venom Tint

Model Co Shimmer Bronze – slightly muddy on my skin, however if I mix with Mac Peachtwist looks darn good!

Supergoop Hand Cream SPF 40 – Haven’t tried the product yet however it will be making its way to my car soon. the idea of having spf hand cream when driving makes lot more logical sense to me.

Have you tried any of these products? what do you think of em?

Indeed Labs – Hydraluron & Peptabright…Indeed Splendid!

Today I’ll be talking about Indeed Lab’s fab creation called Hydraluron & Peptabright.

P1000704

Hydraluron

I absolutely love this product and once again thanks to Mrs. Hirons I’ve been through countless tubes of this goodness. It’s a clear gel with no offensive smell or anything offensive about it, whack it on straight after toning in morning followed by moisturizer and sunscreen. It keeps my skin hydrated for most part of day. Hydraluron has opened my eyes to the concept of dehydration suffered by all skin types (dry, oily, normal, combination). Yes I bravely and openly admit my ignorance about dehydration concept until last 4-5 years ago.

Hydraluron – $24.99 (on sale)

Peptabright

Now dear where have you been? Or have I been living under a rock. The latter seems more of a possibility. Anyway, the website claims the product can even skin tone, reduce and lighten hyperpigmentation, prevent, treat and diminish dark spots, restore luminosity and radiance to the skin, prevent the formation of future dark spots and fight against photo-aging, Stimulate cell turnover and Maintain skin’s hydration.

Unfortunately I don’t use this product every night, but whenever I do my skin always looks brighter and radiant next morning. Because I haven’t used it consistently, can’t say for sure if it has helped me with dark spots or pigmentation but certainly boosts radiance to my skin. Defo repurchase!

PeptaBright – $22.49 (on sale)P1000701I’m very eager to try Eyesilix Eye Cream and Retinol Reface Retinol Reface, anyone tried them, share your thoughts in comments below.

Availability in USA – I’ve seen Indeed Labs products bring stocked up at Walgreens which makes me very happy. Well done Walgreens.
